Where you don't want to play ball!
I don't think I would want to live anywhere down in that area.
A Long Weekend in the Davis Mountains
We had a long 4 day weekend for Memorial Day, and we decided to take off to the Davis Mountains. We stayed at the State Park and had a great time!
A Total family picture while we were out walking the dogs.

Visiting historic Fort Davis.

Before we could leave, we had Serena's Spring program on Thursday night. She has lost all shyness and hammed it up on stage!
A view of our campsite. We saw javelinas and deer from our trailer.

Serena in her touring regalia- she is a bit fancier than dad or Keeg.

On Sunday we drove down to Presidio and went on the River Road through Big Bend State Park. It was a very interesting drive, and we saw lots of harsh yet beautiful in it's own way country.

This was our picnic spot.

Kids fixing to throw rocks in the Rio Grande. Keegan pronounced this the "best vacation" ever. Guess we can forget New York City!

On Saturday afternoon we were driving up to McDonald Observatory and ran into a storm. This is not what you want to see on your windshield. Luckily it was small hail, and it did not do any damage.
There was a geocache in the state park that Coley was determined to find. He took us straight up the side of the "mountain" to find it eventhough we had passed a path that went this way the night before. We forged ahead and ended up at the very top before we came to the correct spot!
Found!!!!

This is what Keegan found while Daddy was signing the cache. Thank goodness he has excellent eye sight because he was fixing to slide down this big rock and would have come right across the snake!
Keegan found the trail! It was less than 10 feet from the cache, but we took the adventurous way up!
Going down the trail....can you tell how steep it was?

The pastures looked like it had snowed.

After we got away from the snake we had to document the climb with a picture.
Serena did a great job keeping up.
We had a great time on this "practice" vacation, and we can't wait to take off across the country in a few weeks!
Four Years Ago – May 25
It is hard to believe that is has been 4 years since we saw Serena's picture for the first time. It seems like she has always been a part of our family. It is funny because we say things like- she got that from you – without even thinking about it, and other people look at us funny.
She is so smart and expressive. She reads everything she sees, and one of her favorite things to do is to write. She loves to sing and talk about her friends at school. She will still be in a Pre-K class next year since she misses the deadline for turning 5 by 3 weeks.
She is our princess.
She loves to carry her umbrella with her- I think it is because she really likes to strike a pose.
This is Serena's version of tourist wear- check out the crown on her hat!

Unplanned Haircut!
Coley and I spent a fun couple of days in Austin while I attended the Elem. Counselor's Conference. Mom came and stayed with the kids, and they had a great time. Cleo, the poodle, got sick not long after we left, and she spent 3 days at the vet. Serena did a little trimming on her hair as well, so I took her to see Randy tonight, and he fixed her up. There was no choice- a lot of hair had to come off. We had talked about doing this cut next fall, but I guess she wanted it now.
It seems to suite her. What do you think?
